There's a Honda Prelude With TWO Engines!
With 400 horsepower and two synchronized powertrains, this custom-built Prelude is anything but ordinary.
Two H22A Engines, Twice the VTEC
At first glance, this fifth-generation Honda Prelude might appear to be an aggressively modified tuner car. However, beneath its heavily customized exterior lies an engineering marvel—a twin-engine setup that effectively doubles its power output. Typically, a Prelude relies on a single 2.2-liter H22A four-cylinder engine. This build, however, takes things to extremes by adding a second, identical engine directly behind the passenger compartment. Each engine is paired with its own five-speed transmission and limited-slip differential, working in unison to produce approximately 400 horsepower.
A Custom Chassis to Handle the Power
To accommodate the unconventional drivetrain layout, the car features a fully custom tubular chassis. The throttle, clutch pedal, and gear shifter are linked to both engines and transmissions, ensuring synchronized operation. Despite the complexity, the car can also function in front-wheel-drive mode using only the stock front engine.
Blistering Performance in a Lightweight Package
With the combined 400 horsepower and a curb weight of just 2,820 pounds (1,279 kg), this Prelude is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in under four seconds. The unique twin-engine configuration ensures that VTEC engagement happens twice, delivering an exhilarating, high-revving experience like no other.
Additional Modifications
Beyond its radical drivetrain, the car boasts a host of performance upgrades, including a 12-gallon fuel cell, 15-inch Rota Slipstream wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes R888R tires, and custom rear upper control arms. The interior has been stripped down to include an integrated roll cage and racing bucket seats, further emphasizing its track-ready nature.
A Rebuilt Past
Originally issued a salvage title in 2009 following an accident, this Prelude has since been rebuilt and now holds a clean North Carolina title. Despite its extensive modifications, the odometer reads 138,300 miles (222,572 km).
Up For Auction
For those seeking an unconventional driving experience, this twin-engine Honda Prelude offers an extreme practice in unique customization. It's up for auction on Cars and Bids, and expectedly, it's garnered quite a bit of buzz among enthusiasts. It remains to be seen how much it sells for.
