Tire Dilemna!
I’m replacing my OEM 16x7 +45 wheels with new 17x7.5 +45 wheels. I’ve been weighing the pros and cons of a few tire options and can’t decide…
235/45
Pro: Best for potholes & best speedo accuracy.Con: Wheel well clearance might be an issue on the 7.5” wheels? Not sure...
215/50
Pro: Slightly better for clearance and mileageCon: Worse for potholes & speedo accuracy.
225/45
Are these worth considering?
For reference: These will be for summer only. I live in Ontario, Canada. My city is infested with potholes. Car is a 22 Civic LX. And my old OEM tires were 215/55r16.

What size has the best tire option that fits your need?
I doubt you will have clearance issues at 235/45. But 235 is 9.25". That's gonna be a bit fat on a 7.5" wheel. Looks like 7.5" is the minimum recommended wheel for a 235. I am running a 245 on a 9" wheel for reference.
What about 225/50. Just slightly taller tire than stock. Fits the 7.5" rim better and has a little more sidewall for potholes.
