Soooo Tired of Traction Problems!
Can anyone suggest a good tire for a 17" wheel? I will even run slicks on the street at this point or something comparable. I have a '97 EK that is currently at 515whp and I need a solution to my traction problems. I am also running the AEM big break kit, so I don't think I can run smaller than a 16" wheel. Right now I have a set of 205/40 17 Toyo Proxes RA1 on the front, but they are just not cutting it anymore. I know I am asking a lot running a 17" wheel, but I do like my breaks and wheel set up. Any suggestions, and I do mean any, that would get me the best traction on the street would be appreciated.
Honestly I'd switch to a 16" wheel and run the Bridgestone RE-11, BF Goodrich T/A KDW, or something similar.
180-300 treadwear.
The RA1 seems like a solid tire though.
At 515WHP, you may need to just face the music and run drag radials.

Pricing is a little cheaper on the 16

Either way, I assume you don't daily drive a 515whp civic. Any tire that is going to have "good traction" with that kind of power is not going to last long.

Thanks for the info. I have not seen those tires. I was thinking that if I did drop down to 16 inch wheels, that maybe I can go a little wider then a 205 as well. Anybody able to fit a 235 on a civic with an offset wheel?
Finding that kind of tire just gets to be super tough.
I've found a small handful of 215/45, I haven't looked for anything wider since the profile is usually too large.

At that kind of power level, youre going to need a drag radial to get any sort of traction, plain and simple. Your best bet is going to be the 205/40-17 Mickey Thompson ET Street drag radial. Anything else just isnt going to cut it. Unfortunately in 16" and 17" diameters there just arnt really any options for a drag radial without dropping down to a 15" wheel.
