Default Race Tire

I have a set of victoracers that have been very well used although they still seem to grip well. I've heard these tires will go until they are corded. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks for your help.

Most R compounds do not store well though unless you know how to store them.

What was your actual question?

basically weather or not they would still be sticky. They seem like it but I'm just concerned with weather or not the tire will just sudently let go.

From the sound of it you're either using or contemplating using BALD R compounds on the street. Pretty dumb thing to do especially if you encounter rain.

BTW the Victoracers will go "off" a lot quicker than the RA-1s. They definitely have better grip at the beginning but will turn noticeably less grippy as they wear past a certain point.

what about the weather?

most r-compound tires "let go" quicker than a street tire would, but their absolute "limit" is also higher.

No not for the street. I'm talking about for a two day track session I'm running this weekend. I run mx's on the street. Where did you get that I was using these for the street?

When to buy new tires:

Do you have a durometer?

How to properly use one:

http://www.longacreracing.com/...ID=18

If don't have any of this stuff or know anyone who does or can help you decide. Maybe just stick your thumbnail into them and see how soft they are still.

I've run on well used Hoosier R compounds and corded 3 out of 4 in one day but in all honesty at that point my Azenis were actually more productive.

I didn't, in fact I made no mention of it.

What are you going to be doing with these anyway? Tracking them or autocross?

I stored a set of Victoracers in my garage for about 3 years, a lot of that time was a detached garage. I thought they were fine, better than street tires when I dusted 'em off and ran them at a driving school.

I'd just be worried about cording them, if you can see any hint of tread at all around the edges they should be fine for 2 days unless you're really hard on tires.

If it comes to it, your MX's are great dual-duty tires.

Victoracers are good tires but if they are old (and especially if they havent been stored properly) they will 'go away' toward the end of a session and they are not terribly progressive when they lose grip at that point either. They still grip better than a street tire will.

They will be fine to run on until they cord, but if you dont have any experience with r-tires on track before I'd stay stick with the MX's and pick up a new set of shaved Toyo RA-1's.

Duh! on me.

I think he edited after I posted or I just had a brain fart. Regardless he's got some answers to work with now.

Though a lot of people seem to think that race tires will automatically make them faster, and as such are better, one would be better off heeding the above advice.

I'm an instructor. I have experience with r compounds I'm simply used to hosiers and ra1's. I was basically trying to get a feel for how well victoracers work when they are on the way out prior to cording.

Just note, the cords go all the way to the edges, so you may end up wearing out the outside edge and cording there first. This may be different than RA1/Hoosiers you're used to.

Yeah, Kumhos are 'good' all the way until they're corded, maybe not for competition but fine for school.

they may appear near death but remember that they are basically a slick with enough tread (if you can call it that) to make them street class legal. I see people run VRs at the track and they look bald. I say run em and look for theads between runs.
