Default 225's on a DA.

Just curious what everyone can tell me about running 225's on a DA, particularly autocrossing. I am running Koni's and GC's and going to be running 225/50/14's as well as 225/50/15's at different points thoughout the season. Anyone know off hand if I am going to have rubbing issues? Doing a test fit, it looks like there is a good chance.

I wouldn't use that size for street driving. For autocross use, I'm not sure. Have you tried asking on the RR/AX forum?

Nope, definitely not for street driving, just R-comps for autocross. Maybe I will try the RR/AX forum next.

offset will matter but you'll most likely need to raise it a bit unless you're running some serious springs. can't remember what wheels were used when I test fit for a buddy now so can't offer much definitive help but PROB. 38 offset and used 10mm spacer (couldn't find a 5 to test but it would have been TIGHT).

Well, I am planning to run some Panasport ProRally's, 14x7, 38 or 40 offset, can't recall at the moment. The guy I bought them from ran them on a DA and didn't have any rubbing issues with the exception of every so occasionally on the RTA in the rear. My bigger concern was rubbing on the outside on the fender. His fender's were rolled, but he said he never ran them on the car previous to rolling the fenders.

yeah, you'd def. need to roll the fenders. Doesn't take long to do, just grab a bat and get to it. Actually, looks like you're in cary. Belong to thscc by any chance? one of the members actually has a fender roller and there's a thread in the member's forum setting up dates for using it.

As a matter of fact, I do. I am one of the autocross VP's. I was actually suppose to catch up with those guys when they were renting the fender roller and I forgot. Oh well, I am going to bring the tires for a test fit to the Test and Tune at the end of Feb. I will see how much rolling is necessary then. Thanks for the advice.

blown head gasket? Haven't heard about that. He did tell me he ran into some cooling issues that I had before I put the b16 in it but haven't heard anything about the head gasket. My experience then (and with others I've had the same issue with) was the radiator. with the old motor, replacing it fixed it but the rad was out of the car so long I think it may have gotten gunked / clogged up enough to restrict the flow when the t-stat was put in (which I found out that I never remembered to put on in after testing the one that was in it when I got it). I need to get up with him and see what the deal is.

No fender rolling needed. I actually ran the 225/50/14's I had this weekend at our Test and tune and it worked out fine, no rubbing at all. I am still a little nervous about the 225/50/15's I have though. They are Kumho Victoracers and not as wide as the Hoosier 225/50/14's I ran this weekend, so maybe they will tuck underneath a little better. We'll see......
