17's on a del sol?
17's are too big for a del sol. The smallest tire commonly available for 17" wheels is 205/40-17, which is too big in diameter (an inch larger than stock). Stick with 15" wheels and 195/50-15, or 16" wheels and 205/40-16.

No, they won't. They will throw off your speedometer and odometer, and they will make your car accelerate slower. Those are FACTS, not opinions.

Just because other people do something that causes a lot of problems, doesn't mean that it's a good idea.

is it possible to put 205/55/16 on a stock suspension on a 97 sol si?
I really like those Michelin Primacy mxv4 tires but that's the only size vailable for my 16" rims..

No. That size is MUCH too big for your car. On 16" wheels, you need 205/40-16.
The Primacy MXV4 is an all-season tire. If you need all-seasons (because you'll be using these tires on winter snow as well as the rest of the year), the Kumho ASX is much better in every way than the Michelin, it's a lot less expensive, too. And the ASX is available in the 205/40-16 size you need.

I'm not sure about the expensive part though..
costco has a 60 rebate on michelins so they come to 101/tire that incluldes lifetime balancing rotation, etc
asx's are 75+shipping+installation so it actually might turn to be more expensive
I'll probbaby try the michelins and if they rub will use the 30-day return policy to get my money back from costco

For a WORSE tire in the WRONG size.

Shipping usually is around $10/tire and installation $10-15/tire. Still less - for a BETTER tire in the RIGHT size.
But you seem determined to get a worse tire in the wrong size. Go for it...
