yes!!!! With China being the world leader in industrial metal they are buying everything up so steel is getting harder to source out hence price increase.. I don't know if you were actually buying stainless before but price has increase around 40-60% in the last 2 years..

You probably looked at the short radius ones. The regular sch10 1.5" 90's are $8.26, still expensive. But not $40+

Give steel prices time to come back down. They are falling rapidly. McMaster Carr probably doesn't update their catalog until their current inventory is depleted and they get a better price on new materials. Check locally at your piping supply houses. Tell them you want stainless weldels.

Stainless prices have been on the rise since late 04 (during 05 and 06 they were fluctuating rather rapidly due to China's buying power and rising nickel prices). In the last 2 months we have seen a drop in prices on many items and hopefully they will continue to fall (for the consumer's sake).

We raised our prices from an initial price of $4.25/ea in 04 to the current $5.79/ea slowly over the last 4 years but when our new stock order from overseas arrives there will be a drop in prices for a short period of time. This is not because our cost has dropped since our last stock order, it hasn't.

Richard@Ace

(This is not intended as spam. I'm merely using our prices as an example of how the market has gone up over the last 4 years.)

EDIT: In regard to McMaster...they are not and have never been concerned with being competitive in the price department. Their current prices are high for a couple of reasons and will continue to be high until their current high cost inventory is sold. When you have 400,000+ items in stock and have over 300 people on the sales desk in one location alone you've got a lot of overhead to contend with. They're intention is to be a one stop shop (in person, online, and with their catalog)...not a price conscious distributor.

I'm in Canada, and I still order from him from time to time. Though I have a very good supplier now locally.
