Default Square tube headers

Thought i would share this with you guys. I belong to a site call Focusfanatics.com, it's a huge online Ford focus site an one of our members is a tuner an produce's Items for our car(s). He recently deside to build Square tubed headers an pulled out 4 extra Hp an 6 TQ over the SVT header. If you have any questions for him I'll ask him for you unless you want to join the forum to find out.

Are the exhaust ports square where they exit the head?

theres a flange sitting on the table next to it..look to be round.

definately be an increase in volume with the square tubing.

ZETEC ports are a D shape.

I don't really see the point in the square primary tubes. I feel like it is more of a selling gimmick than anything. I really don't like the collector on the 4-1 that Tom made. However, his design might make more power over the stock SVT header, but I feel like the only reason he used square tubes is to be different.

Here is a picture of the ZETEC ports with a round flange bolted to it.

As you can tell it is shaped kind of like a 'D' it is flat on the bottom.

K well that's the first time I've seen that. Any comparisions to another aftermarket header?

The SVT header was an after market part compaired to the stock zetec header. so if it out performed the SVT header, I'll ask him for a Dyno sheet if he has one.

oh ok. I'm not that big into fords so I'm ignorant. Kind of like out performing an itr header? That thing would be so super cheap to make.

What do you mean ITR headers?

the SVT header would be like the old b16 SI header on an lower grade engine, it's a step up from factory.

Wouldn't the square tubes affect the velocity or vortex created? or would that even matter?

It seems really obvious to me why the square tube header out performed the SVT header, and it has nothing to do with the square tubing. Though it is kind of a cool look.

*Hint - compare from where it goes 4-2 to the flange that connects it to the exhaust. That section is showing you the most obvious of the reasons.

From the thread about the square tube headers on Focusfanatics.com

Square has more area and in most cases flows better , cuts down on turbulance and more

Your answer:

No the head is somewhat oval , That has no effect on the flow into the header tho

I think the reason why the square tube headers flowed better than the stock SVT header is because of the 4 into 1 instead of 4-2-1.
