Race Header, adding 'removable' cat?
I'm thinking about getting a race header for my k-series but worried about the inspection visual test. If you don't know, a race header eliminates the cat. I'm in Texas and they just do a visual look for the cat, no sniffer for obdII cars.
So I was thinking about say adding flanges to where I can install the stock cat back on when its time, then put a straight pipe back in after wards.
Is this too much than it's worth? Would this work? If so, whats an average price to pay? Just a idea that popped into my head, probably has been done before
Not sure if this is the correct forum, but move if it's not.

you won't be able to use the stock cat because of how long it is. so buy a magnaflow one, and add a donut/slip flange on the header side (primaries) and a regular flange on the other side should be fine. spring bolts for the donut/slip flange should allow for enough flexing.
why not just get a custom cat to fit in with your race header.

You can get any diameter you need... any length you need... as well whatever flanges you need.

a guy sells round catalytic converters on ebay, i think i paid 40 bucks for my 3"
but he has them in different diameters, ceramic cores
you find one the same size as your header.. and use v-band flanges.. loads quicker and eliminates the time needed to line the flanges up and suck

Why not just weld little tabs to the header so you can bolt on the factory cat heatshields so it looks like there is a cat. Or you can cut a cat in half down the length and weld it to the header without cutting the header at all. I mean it's all visual right?
