Default quick epoxy/alluminum question...

ok, i have front mount intercooler on my turbo setup of my accord which i assume is alluminum... the two tabs on each end of the tanks have broken off so all that is holding up the cooler is just the plumbing... i have not much welding skill let alone with aluminum... is there an epoxy or soemthing that any of you guys would recomend? i could take it somewhere and probably will, i was just curious though if there were any good and strong epoxys for this? thanks...

Try JB Weld.

jb weld has held my oil return bung for almost a year and a half. it's also keeping my broken swaybar endlink together.

good info... i know alot of peps that use it for the oil line.. the only thing i was concerned about is that... my car rides ruff.. realllly ruff and it broke the original welds on the intercooler ... do you think JB weld would hold up to this kind of pressure?

No, the vibration will most likely crack it off, as its not really welding, but gluing.
Get them welded from some decent strength material.

yeah, ive JB welded stuff before thats why im avoiding it with this haha... i probably will just take it alll apart and get some braces and have someone local weld it up... do you think the heat from the welding process could ruin the intercooler in anyway?

Take it and have it fixed. Obviously it wasn't strong enough the first time or something wasn't mounted right. Do not try and jb weld or any other epoxy as it makes it very difficult to do the welding later which you will need to have done.

Bite the bullet and get it welded!!!! Preferably by someone who knows what they are doing.

How were the tabs broken off to begin with? Epoxy won't be any stronger than the weld that was there before.

basically you over lap two plates on the orginal mounting tab. then glue it. i did this on my friends tabs that broke as well. he has maybe 20k miles on them without them breaking.

JB Weld didn't work for me...
You can try 3M DP190 epoxy, but for the price of the DP 190, you might as well have it welded...

also, sand it up a bit. oils from hands, or engine oil will effect how JB weld attaches to the metal.

Probably only cost you a few bucks if you can find someone to weld it. Even a really crappy mig weld is going to be better than jb weld.
