Default Project 80cc Rascal

I lost my job, unemployment rate is through the roof here in Washington state, so until I found work I had alot of idle time on my hands, I had to keep busy. Here is the bi-product of boredom.

Story is, my friend found a electric scooter (used for handicapped people at grocery stores) otherwise known as a "Rascal" at an abandoned house down the road from my house, he came back on my crf50 and got a rope and towed it back to my house with the 50. After we found out the batteries were bad in the cart we decided to put the motor out of a dismantled pw80 I had in the backyard into the rascal.

4 unemployed days of welding, grinding and cutting, and here it is...

Sorry for the shitty pics, my iPhone is all I had. I wish I had taken pictures of the build process, but when I'm in build mode I barely stop to eat, let alone take pictures.

All the material and parts used were laying around the house, I'm into this thing $16 for the chain roller I bought and a spool of mig wire.

It does a little over 30mph, but gets up there quick, this pw motor was a 2 stroke, so its actually kinda quick. It will do donuts in 2nd and 3rd gear (in gravel lol) and if I rev it in neutral and cram it in first it pulls the front wheel off the ground about 2 - 2.5ft haha. Vids will be soon to come.

I don't think in any way this is an engineering masterpiece, it's meant to be funny, it just so happens that it is a blast to ride! Flame away if you want...really its okay.

You need 2 front wheels... a posi rear trike is a really REALLY bad idea.

Agreed, it is dangerous. And it turns terrible. It turns okay when its up on 2 side wheels though.

Haha... nice...

You know what's weird...big companies like google have 'idle time' where employees can do anything they want ... so long as they come back and report what they were working on.

They say most of the great google products came out of these workshops (gmail, google maps...etc) anything that doesn't have to do with the core search engine came from people messing around with stuff they thought was cool.

Here's what's weird... a creative and skilled person like you and other people on this board who would be the back bone of creativity... being jobless.

I mean even the lambo muira started as a garage project.

My advice... go online and see if u can market 50cc or suped up chairs for old people... you may just have a niche market here...

you just need to spend a bit more on the aesthetics of it ...

Thanks alot man, I really appreciate the compliment. I like to think i'm a creative person, I just don't have patience to do everything exactly right, that's why if I need something done perfect and exact I let ScorpioMK do it, the guy that posted about 4 post ago, he's an incredible fabricator/tig welder, I envy his skill and patience.

As for being unemployed, I got some things figured out, and lets just say I'm doing better then ever financially now.

I am a Low Volt Electrician, security, networks, phone, tv, home audio, home theater etc. by trade, and kind of a jack of all trades but master of none. My brain travels all over the place, one month I live to make music, play drums etc, next month I want to build a fast car, next month I want to get super good on my bike...If I made up my mind and stuck with one thing I could probably be REALLY good/successful with it. I've been trying to find something to make me a millionaire for about 15 years, just haven't quite found it yet. lol

very interesting, and I am sure it is quite dangerous. With that said, I am sure it is also very fun to ride. Could be a great pit ride for races.
