From the looks of it, he made a twin scroll collector, which does not require cuts on two sides of each piece of pipe. It only requires a cut on one side of each.

How do you guys figure out the length of the tubes and the angle at which to make the cuts for specific merge collectors? Im trying to make a 6-1 merge collector, but havnt been able to get the length/angle right in order for them to all line up properly. Im making it for an undivided housing.

Dave, out of curiosity, are you making the 5cyl collectors for a Volvo?

My jig;

17.5 deg angle and you need to rotate the tube(4" long) 95 deg to make the 2nd cut
The bolt fixes the tube.
I used a band saw.

This is the 2nd jig i made, the first one didnt produce equal parts, this one does.

No, they are for audi 20v turbo. I've been meaning to make a couple more of these manifolds in my spare time and I thought this last week would be slow but I had a big job come in and now I am swamped. I need to build a couple and post them up, they look pretty cool.

Just out of curiosity, did you mark the jig somewhere to make sure the rotation is consistent? Most would agree the first cut is not a big deal. The second cut where you have to rotate it accurately into place is the key.

the white sticker (look closely) represents the 95 deg rotation. I marked the tube and aligned the marks with the right and left side of the sticker.

my guess would be the blade pulls on the material a bit, so you need to make up for that.

95 degrees also offers a rectangular opening rather than a square one.

Would you use the same 17.5* if you were doing a 6-1 collector? Or is this just for the 4-1's?

I really like that jig. You could also scrib degree lines on it and rotate it that way as well. I might have to try this.

Thanks

Now THAT is an awesome JIG. Just drop the pipe in, clamp, cut, and rotate exactly 90 deg. Nice work.
