I think you should cut back from 30CFH to 15-20... Unless you like wasting money on Argon.
I've never used anything above 20CFH for ANY reason...

100% Argon for SS. I build firetrucks and All we use is stainless. Anything other than 100% Argon will not be right and we use it on both AL and SS.

As do I. 20 is the most I have ever used though. I generally just keep it at 15.

I have been running it at 20CFH, I only turned it up for a few welds to see if it made any difference. Also I do have the foot switch....

As for the comment on the muffler pointing down, when you look at it on the car is dead straight, the tube went into the muffle only very slightly cocked....

there are times when different gas is used, now i'm not a tig expert so idk what app. need the different gas. but i have heard helium/argon mixes.

so don't just run around saying 100% argon "100%" of the time on tig.

OP project looks good, try adding a little less filler per "dab" next time, should help makes things more uniform, the welds looks chunky...

blackcat had asked what gas to use for wire feed welding stainless.i commented stainless mix gas.not to be confused with tig.i only use 100%argon for tig welding.there are special apps for a helium mix for deep penitration on thick al.

maybe it worked as thats what it's for.

I think we have established that 100% argon works for tig welding.

I"ve used a Helium/Argon mix before. It's great for overhead.

did you use solar flux or a back gas when you welded that pipe?it amazes me at how many pro welders dont protect the back side of welds on pipes.i have modified a moto gp pipe for motocycze that had no back side protection and it was all crusted up on the inside.this will kill your flow on a very expensive piece.i then made a new one and used the solar flux to show how good it should be.if you coat the inside with it you will get zero crusty build up.

Helium/Argon mixes are great so who ever says 100% Argon all the time for TIG is wrong.

Ive never Mig'd ss before so cant really comment on this but im sure your ment to use 100% Argon and possibly can use Helium/Argon mixes as we use Helium/Argon mixes for Miging Aluminium.

To OP, keep it up just practice, practice, practice your definatly on the right track oh and nice set up you have to

i have only miged al once on my dads miller spool gun.it was 100%argon.not saying that what your doing is wrong.i just have not done much of it.i just tig weld al.as for miging stainless i have done this.i was on a hand rail job that lasted for 8 months.the gas companys have special formulations for this and the differaces in these gases make the weld much better than just 100 argon.like a small amount of c02 for penitration.
