transmission id
Is there a way to identify a manual transmission with it still in the car? i have a 94 civic with crvtec 5sp previous owner was unsure what trans it was. i have heard of a way to count revolutions on input shaft and output (axle) with it in gear (5th i think) Im wondering can i do the same with it in the car? and yes the sticker on trans is gone.
^^ This is tricky, Depend on tire and rims size!!! (my ej8 GSR tranny does 60mph at 3.5k-3.6k at 5th with 205/50/15)
By the way usually the sticker says nothing (S80,Y80) That can be from LS, GSR or ITR.
The best way is open it and count the ring gear and final drive, also synchrotech has a post to count 3rd gear and I.D. the ring gear slots marks.

Without the sticker i'd say the only way is to track down the guy that did the swap/ keep checking with previous owners to see if one of them knows. If not then you will have to start taking things apart. You may be able to tell based on clutch spline or the axles used, but that would require you pull an axle and or drop the trans. Is this a cable or hydro trans? This of course assuming that there wasn't a conversion done. can you get a part number for the axle shafts? This still isnt a guarantee but at least its better then not having any information on it at all. Gives other H-T members a place to start.
its a hydro trans. i wasnt looking for a definitive answer just a probably so i have an idea of what im working with. opening it up might be my winter project along with a suspension bebuild.
