removing reverse synchro ring
I removed the reverse brass synchro ring from my dog box, ive seen people do this and this is a race only car. what is the affect of this. Will i just need to wait a second before trying reverse when i press the clutch in...theres not much to reverse as it is and i was just wanting to know if it will constantly be a problem.
reverse has a damn brass synchro ring at the top, it slows the speed of the mainshaft down when the reverse gear is being inserted, it works exactly like every other brass synchro ring on the other gears. I have seen this comment to many times. when that brass ring gets ****ed up its really hard to get it to go in to reverse, and ive seen a lot of messed up ones where it wouldn't go in.
Perhaps you should tell use just exactly what you have for a transmission then. All you have listed in your sig is an ITR and '99 Civic. Either way B and D-series trannys don't have a synchronized reverse.
dude theres a part in the parts book for Synchro hub 5-R, heres a pic.
this is the mfactory dog box but the reverse synchro is that nice piece of brass at the top of the mainshaft, when you put it in reverse that collar GOES UP AND USES THAT SYNCHRO TO SLOW THE SHAFT USING THE STOP WASHER BECAUSE THATS WHAT A SYNCHRO DOES. I REMOVED THE BRASS. I HAVE A LIBERTY GEAR SET IN A B SERIES TRANSMISSION SO ITS THE SAME SITUATION JUST DIFFERENT BRAND.
