Default LX vs EX automatic trans different?

I have a 1996 Civic LX that is an auto trans, the trans slips every time it shifts gears? I have an extra 1999 Civic EX auto trans sitting in my garage, I want to know if there's is a different from the LX and EX trans or if I can swap it out? Thanks

They're different. 3rd gear ratio IIRC is the difference. It will throw a code P0715.

What if I used the EX transmission computer, would I still get the code? Or would the Ecu throw the code? Thanks

The car uses a PCM, engine and trans computer are all one. If you use an EX ECU it will throw codes for the vtec solenoid and pressure switch.

The LX has the better fuel economy to begin with since it has the longer gear ratios. The EX will feel more sporty with the shorter gear ratios as the expense of fuel economy. As previously mentioned, you will get error codes for the VTEC solenoid however.

Not true, at least for the '92 - '95 Civics. I never bothered to look into the automatic ratios for '96 - '00, but the '92 - '95 automatic civics actually have a longer geared transmission in the EX models for better fuel mileage because the engine made enough power to haul itself along at a lower cruising RPM. The manual version is exactly the opposite.
