Default ITR LSD strength?

My car has a USDM ITR tranny with LSD, I was told by a guy they are weak and will break easy, My car makes 510 whp and I use slicks at the track, so far i have not had a problem, but I want to know if I am just lucky and on borrowed time or if they have been known to handle this kind of power. I ran a OBX in my D series tranny and it worked well, if this LSD is going to fail for sure i will put a OBX in instead.

Just depends. There are a lot of variables. Though you are better off sticking with the ITR LSD than going with an OBX.

well i know the OBX diffs can handle a ton of abuse so your saying the ITR LSD is at least as strong?

I was told 400 WHP is the max for an ITR LSD by Ralph Hollack of Quaife in 2003.

Thanks for the reply dogginator, do you happen to know what the OBX is rated to? and is the ITR LSD a helical gear style LSD or a viscous style? i have been researching and it seems that its a helical style but im not sure. I think the guy who told me it was weak was under the impression it was not a helical style which seems to be stronger then the viscous type. I have never had the tranny apart so othe rthen being able to see threw the dif when the axles are out i have no way of knowing what type it is, but like i said after researching it seems that it is a helical style.

I do not. The OBX unit didn't exist in 2003 when I researched this.

ITR is helical. They can hold 500whp, but for how long. I don't know what the OBX can hold, but they are extremely poorly made and the majority of the last 6 I've had were out of round and not usable, causing me to no longer install them. How many fast SFWD and HC guys do you see running OBX?

yeah charles installed a OBX in my last D series tranny and it ran mid 11s all year no problems in a CRX, this car is almost a full second quicker. he also said he got a batch of out of round ones and dont like to mess with them any more.
