Well I have a 99 civic SI and it is really hard to get in and out of reveres and fith gear grinds at high rpm's. Does anybody have an idea of what is the cause? could a simple change of tranny fluid fix the problem?

 

I'd try changing the fluid first, 2.2 quarts.

If it makes a diffrence it does this wether the car is on or off.

 

Well then I think that takes the clutch and throwout bearing out of the issue. Fluid sounds like the best bet to me.

could be something worn inside but changing the fluid is the first and easiest thing to try without pulling the trans and opening her up

 

Could be a problem in the 5-R sleeve or hub...if you're grinding into 5th and have issues with reverse, you may have materiel lodged in the slider or a broken spring. Could be a fluid issue also
