Default car jerks on acceleration/deceleration

I have an 89 hatchback, standard with 130/000 miles.. my car just started to jerk when i give it gas and when i let off the gas.. it doesnt jerk if i hold my foot down on the pedal and continue to accelerate, only initialy, its not a crazy violent jerk but its definately not healthy.. what could this be? could it be play in the driveshaft or axles? CONFUSED AND A LITTLE WORRIED!! please help, thanks

could be play in the driveshafts (most common problem) and or worn engine mounts and or torque mounts.

I'm not sure if STD's came with torque mounts, but I'd check them first.

Agree with Aaron that it's probably driveshafts though. If you put the car in gear on a flat surface and release the handbrake, you can gently rock it back and forth and listen/look for play in the inner CV's.
