3rd gear missing now what?
I have a 92 integra gs five speed. My third gear has always had a slight sychro grind if reved up high. I have driven it for about ten years like this and worked really hard not to thrash it. Friday I was having trouble finding third as it would grind and go into gear. Then when it gear it would pop out. Now it won't even go into gear as it grinds if it gets too close. If I rev match the gear it will go in but gear feels missing and a very light grind. I replaced the gear oil with pensoil sychromesh Sat. and the car overall shifts smother, but nothing has changed with third gear. I think my sychros are bad for third. What do you guys think? What is the best option? I am having trouble finding a ys1 transmission. Should I replace the sychros and pay more or should I roll the dice with a junkyard transmission. Should I even try to repalace the shift linkage bushing, because it feels like it just cant reach third?
You can use the parts from any hydro LS transmission. Or, you can get the whole 3-4 set for/from a GSR or B16 trans and use that (but you MUST get 3 AND 4).
how hearty are the ls hydro trans gears and synchros? I know the ys1 has trouble with 3rd gear. Do the hydro trannys in the gen 3 integras have simmilar problems?

Rebuild your transmission. A junkyard trans will likely have issues.
It will need the synchro, sprung and slider replaced at a minimum. Likely the mainshaft 3rd gear as well. Repairing it when the problem was first noticed likely would have saved you a good bit of money.

Damage on 4th gear side of the hub and sleeve will cause issues getting into 3rd gear.
I have one so bad 3rd gear is locked out, cannot get the sleeve off the hub without a press.
Synchrotech replacement parts, again saving the day!

Thank you for all the advice and suggestions. I might do a rebuild when my financial situation improves. I have another vehicle that I primarily drive anyway. I appreciate you suggestion aquafina I know you are being real, but you do not know what my finacial situation has been and it is very off putting stating the obvious in such a negative way. I have had the car parked since 2009 and just now started fixing it up again. I have taken a 50% paycut since 2009 and have been struggling to survive. Shoulda, woulda, coulda, hindsight is 20/20 and telling me what I already know doesn't fix anything it just add insult to injury.
I understand people have different financial standings. I made that statement for two reasons. You seemed to be under the impression that changing the fluid could fix it and that simply changing the synchro will fix it (many people do, and so they continue to drive on a problematic transmission thinking it won't make it any worse) and also so others reading this will fix their transmissions sooner rather than later.
One thing you can do to save time and money if your are on a budget is cracking that tranny open at the wreck yard and inspect it, I needed the selector rod for a 92-93 Gs-r tranny and thats what I did. Better spend 10 for that then the 150 they wanted for the whole thing.
