Wrong engine in a car.. what now?
Hi, just registered with hopes of finding an answer here.
In short: Bought a 93 civic (EX) with a new engine for my GF, later discovered that new engine is a non-vtech that's supposed to be in the car.
Problem 1: During hot weather the car does not start.
Problem 2: I dont know what engine is in the car.
The following numbers are on engine side of the bell housing:
HM C 6z6 62666
I was hoping to fix the problem, or find the ECU to match the engine currently in the car.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Alex-

This part actually seems like it may say "D16Z6"
Is it clearly legible or is it all grimey? If it's dirty wipe it clear. D16Z6 is the correct designation for an SOHC VTEC block. Look at the valve cover too, if the spark plugs wires go into the front half of the valve cover, that's more than likely a VTEC head. If it goes into the back part of the valve cover, it's a NON-VTEC head. This is all assuming that it is a 92-95 head. Other things to look for is a single "H" emblem on the middle of the valve cover or even more direct is if it says "VTEC" right on top of the valve cover. Check your ECU also, it should say XXX-P28-XXXXX on it.
