Default wrapping the intake pipe

I am going to wrap some sort of insulator around my intake pipe to keep the air inside kooler. I went to home depot today, they have something like duct tape, but it is made out of foam like material with flashy alum foil on the outside layer, will that work? I don't want the foam to melt on the intake. I think it had a R rating of 1.6 what does that mean?

Any other suggestion will be great, thanks!

Of course it will work. The real question is, how much difference will it make. How about putting a temperature sensor at the throttle body and see what the difference is.
