Default Why does my car keep throwing alternator belts?

I have had this car for a while now, it has gone through different setups and it gets driven every day. I have been beating this **** out of the car for months and have not had this problem at all and now all of a sudden I keep slinging belts. I literally spent almost $70 today in belts, this is ridiculous.

The motor is a B16a, no A/C, no PS with a B20 crank pulley and stock alternator pulley.

I have tried every size from 28.5" to 32" and I cannot find a belt that wants to stay in place. I am putting it on and they are snug every time, but as soon as I get on it the belt ejects itself from the pulley

Any one have these problems? I would like to not have to spend the money on a Fluidamper

I am wondering if your pulley is bent. That will definitely cause the belt to slip

Or the alternator pulley and crank are not in good alignment. Bracket, bearing.

Pulleys aren't bent and it is aligned perfectly. I bought another one today put it on went for a ride, as soon as I hit 9-10k there goes the battery light, got one a little smaller and put it on pretty tight and it has been fine for now

wait...wat? 9-10krpm? and you wonder why the belt keeps flying off?? you need to crank the tension wayyy tight to keep that thing from flying off....use a good belt (not a goodyear gatorback) and put it on real tight.....

trust me, I am using a prybar on the alt bracket to get it tight to where I can see the belt stretch...

what do you reccomend as a good belt? So far I have tried Dayco, Duralast, OEM and the bs gatorback belt for $27

Could the bracket deflect under load and change the alignment? Would not take much at 9+k. Also, what pulley,OEM with damper? Does the belt run ok at 9k, you could look under the hood and get an idea what the belt is doing.

i had the same problem on my b16a the problem was that the bottom bolt on the alternator was not tight enough and the alternator i was using had a smaller pulley so it would rip all the time but definetly check the lower bolt and torque on it might be your problem

also check the other pulleys that the belt is on. Mainly the tensioner pulley. If that is siezed up, the belt wont last too long

I think I got it fixed... I noticed one of the bolts on the lower bracket had backed it self out a considerable amount and was letting the alternator tilt back.

I have been on the same belt since the other day so all is good for now
