Default When is time for engine rebuild? (based on leakdown test?)

Did a search, didnt find anything similar

I have 21% and 30% leakdown on cylinder 2 & 3.... 10% or so on the other 2. Is it time for a rebuild? I have 74,000 miles on my Integra LS, 35,000 of it with the JR charger (and I do drive the car hard almost anytime I can.)

Anyone? Thanks.

yep, rebuild time maybe you should do a regular compression test dry, then one with oil in the damaged cylinders to see if its rings or not...

I don't have my Helm's handy to double-check, but I believe that more than 12% constitutes a rebuild.

I got my rebuild done when cyl#1 and 4 were reading 18 and 22% and i was going through between 4-6 quarts of oil between 5k services..nuff said!

I see. Even with my 2 bad cylinders, I dont burn oil believe it or not.
Well, what do you guys replace in a rebuild? Rings, rod bolts, bearings, what else?
How much $$ we talking about?

depends on the condition of everything...if its solely rings, then just hone it (assuming the walls are in need of just a hone) and replace the rings, while inspecting everything while your disassembling to re-ring it...inspect the crank journals, inspect the rod bearings, pistons, etc....

Since we are on the topic of rebuilds...I thought I would save some bandwidth and ask you guys. My b18a is in need of a rebuild as well (I fear) and I'm losing oil but do not know where. I have no signs of it in my exhaust, and I parked in the same spot with the car on for 20 minutes...no oil. Where else can I be losing this much oil? Any help is appreciated.

not sure where but oil does burn to smoke so I don't know if you can "see" it.

My mechanic says he want to do it right and he estimates a rebuild will cost a bit under $3K.... ouch...

I think that is way to high, even if a shop is doing it. But I could be wrong.

Bearings 160 (OEM)
Rings 125(OEM)
Misc Seals, head gasket 200 (OEM)

Honing Only - less then 100 bux.
Bore and hone, less then 200 bux.

Not sure what the labor is for teardown, inspection and assembly though.

If you want another quote on a rebuild, send me an IM. There is a guy in Napa that does all of our machine work and does most machine work for import dealers in the area. He is not a Honda expert, but he is very familiar with them.

Also shoot me an IM and let me know who quoted you 3000.
