what is Difference between YS1 & Y1 cable trannies ??
I heard the YS1 LSD is stronger than the S1 with no LSD but whats the difference between YS1 ans Y1 ( both have LSD ) ??????????????????????????????????????????????????
I currently have a S1 tranny ( cable ) on a JDM B18B , but i was told the YS1 has a bigger main shaft as well as LSD .
How about gear ratios ?????????? Does it still rev @ 4600 RPM @ 120/kmph
in 5 th gear ??

not all ys1's have lsd, same goes for the y1's and s1's. Some will come lsd equiped and some won't.
yes, the ys1 has a larger diameter shaft, which would mean you'll need a 92+ b series clutch disk to run that tranny.
the y1 is going to be a a bit shorter geared than the ys1.... search the web and you'll be able to find a comparison of different b series tranny gearing.

WHen comparing JDM Y1 and JDM YS1 i thought the YS1 has shorter gears and was a stronger tranny?
Anyone have any input ?
acoording to this chart YS1 has shorter gears.

you are both incorrect
a YS1 has two versions and it uses a 26 spline clutch disk
and both were available with an optional LSD, the LSD's in the older cable trannies are not as strong as the newer ITR LSD's because the olders LSD's were VISCOUS
and the newer ITR LSD's are a helical gear type LSD
one version of hte YS1 came in the LS and the other came in the 92-93 GSR
the 92-93 GSR YS1 has the SHORTEST gears out of any honda tranny 1st and 5th are shorter than a itr and it has a 4.4 final drive
the LS YS1 are about the same as a newer LS
but here is where the "stronger" portion comes into play
the internals in a YS1 are compatible with hydraulic components
this means you can install a ITR LSD into a YS! transmission and the
same with newer final drives, and the main shaft is almost identical
in size to the newer hydraulic transmissions.
i personally have a GSR YS1 in my 93 hatch and i love it but yet i hate it
at 80mph i am at 4600rpm so my highway gas mileage SUCKS!!
but yet i can start off in second gear without any problems of stuttering
so it makes traffic driving an ease
overall if i were to buy a tranny over again i would go with a ITR tranny
because of ease, the hasport kit is a PITA!! to adjust.
here you can go to this website for gear chart comparisons
gear chart link
or you can go to this one for even more capable comparisons
another gear chart link
and yes i have a bad habbit of huitting the "ENTER" button

sorry, but the gsr ys1 did NOT have optional lsd. Only the jdm ys1 from the xsi had optional lsd. The jdm xsi ys1 has the same gearing as the gsr ys1.
