what coulda caused this,help??
Ok, I have a 94 integra GSR and i know i need to change the drivers side axle it vibrates slightly under power but i don't think the axle caused this but i'm unsure..
Ok, i was driving to work maybe 45mph or so and i get this hissing sound on my drivers side front on the bad axle side. It sounded just like i was getting a flat tire so i sped up to make it to a pull off I stopped the car and get out to check it out but no hissing sound at all, so i moved the car up a inch or so, still nothing... Then i pulled back out onto the main road and the hissing flat tire sound is gone but now its making a dragging/grinding sound. I continue to drive it like that about 2 miles to the 7-11. I turn my wheel all the way left and see if i can see anything, but nothing. I then drive it a mile to work and home this evening with no issues or noises other then the slight axle vibration i've felt the past few weeks.
I jacked the car up and checked the strut out by picking the wheel up and down it seems fine with no leaking.
What coulda caused this and what else can i check for??

yeah but it intially sounded like i blew a tire i was pissed when i pulled over ready to take out the jack. Then after i started going again it was a sorta grinding type sound. But after stopping again it all completely went away. It sounded like something serious had happened..

vibration under acceleration typically means bad inner cv joint. sometimes you can find a wierd problem in the trans but its not likely. Worn suspension components and engine mounts can also cause this
Vibration while braking (or if its really bad,... CRUISING at ALL speeds) usually is the rotors
yeaahhh....no.

but since he said the hissing noise started light and escalated to scratching, grinding sound tells me that he might have had wasted brake pads which then grinded on to the rotor making groves and making it uneven or even warped which makes the vibration.
vibration can either be from a bad cv or rotors under acceleration.

i'm changing the axle friday but i really don't think that hissing and jangling sound came from it but i'm no mechanic.

The sound will go away immediatelty if i let off the gas. I get a small vibration and humming sound on acceleration..
I'm hoping this is'nt in my tranny but it is only when i accelerate, when i let off the gas it completely goes away so i know its gotta be drivetrain related..
changed the axle but i just wasted my money.
Could it possibly be a wheel bearing?
i've had a bad one before but it hummed on corners only this hums all the time while accelerating.
What about balljoints maybe?
how can i check those?

Im really drunk tonight so ill post later ...when I can think a little clearer
bad suspension components and mounts can cause vidrations because they cause the drive train to bind....it only happens when accelerating because thats when the binding occurs, just soimething to think about, check it all again ,illtry to help later
well you didnt mention anything about a noise in the previous posts.....only a vibration was mentioned

I just took it to the local commuter rail just to take it around the turns etc and go fast in reverse. I did'nt hear any humming in reverse but its whining so that might have covered it up..
It will make a humming sound in every gear under acceleration only but it is the worst in 5th gear cruising like on the interstate. It seems to be the worst right around 3k. It almost sounds like a wheel out of balance but i just changed wheels to eliminate that.
I put in a new axle already that did nothing.
I jacked it up and tried to shake the wheel at 6 and 12 o'clock and nothing moved. I did 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock and if i shake in hard i can get alil movement and hear a clunk sound i guess from the tie rod area. I did the same thing to my boys car his drivers side made the same noise but his passenger side did'nt do nothing so i dunno if thats normal or not..
This is a jdm front integra and it has the jdm itr steering rack.
I'm hoping its nothing in the rack the steering wheel is'nt straight but it was'nt when i got the car either.
Wish i could find a way to figure out if its the tranny because honestly my money is so tight i can't keep wasting money throwing parts at it. And i'm scared to drive it to much because i don't wanna break down..
OK, after getting under the car all the mounts look to be in good shape.
But i noticed alot of grease and the passenger side axle boot has a hole in it on the bottom side..
Could this be causing the noise on the drivers side?
thier is no noise on the passenger side at all just had 2 different people ride in it..
The passenger side needs changed regardless so hopefully changing that might fix the issue.
