wack engine idle
I swapped blocks out today and i have a couple questions.I got a cat off of a 98 gsr. It needs to be flipped upside down to fit. why. secoond thing is my idel is going up and dropping and it wont stop... what are the possible reasons? thanks
how do i do that. the idle was fixed by a guy and sits at like 2k right now. he said I need a new throttle body warmer or something. does that sound right? thanks a bunch
Catalytic converters were different between those years. You probably have a mixture of different year A-pipe, converter, & B-pipe.

What's a 'throttle body warmer'?? Maybe he doesn't know what the FITV really is?
Your FITV might be loose inside, or your IACV might be dirty or sticking. Vacuum leaks are also a common problem for surging idle.
Your base idle should be adjusted like this:
1 Get the engine warmed up completely, turn off all accessory loads & electrical stuff.
2 Unplug the electrical connector to the IACV. The idle speed will drop lower.
3 Adjust the screw above the throttle bore, to get 450 or 500 rpm.
4 Turn off the engine, plug the IACV back in, disconnect the battery or pull a fuse to reset the ECU.
5 Start the engine without touching the gas pedal, let it idle for 15 minutes or so, without touching the gas pedal.
That's for a '95 GSR without a turbo. I don't know how the turbo would mess with this procedure.

thanks... I told him he didnt knoow what he was talking about. but Im figuring its the valve underneath the throttle is the problem (FITV), how can i go about fixing that??
I think there's a pretty good post here somewhere, with pictures & all. I haven't had to do this myself.
To take it off, you'll have to disconnect the coolant hoses, etc. On one end of the FITV, there's a cover you can take off. Look for something loose, screw it back in tight. Make sure where it bolts to the throttlebody, that isn't a vacuum leak.
