Ok, so im rebuilding my engine and i took off the head and saw this.

So i wasnt sure if it was a burnt piston ring or something so i took the number 2 piston out and here are some pics of that.

So I think it might be a valve probelm. Am I right? If it is the valves what might be wrong with them. I need to know this asap because i need this ***** instaled by monday. So i need to know if it needs to go to the shop. Thanks for any input.

if it were the valve seals would it also mess up the valve seats? or even the valves? im trying to figure this out because i want to know if the cost of it is too much because i will soon be getting a new valve train.

Definitelythe rings, IMO rings are more likely to go bad in the #2 than valves. #3 is the cylinder that sees the most heat and pressure becuase of the combustion cycle in a 4 cylinder engine. I woulf look into rings rather thatn valves. Very infrequently is it the valves unless you are raising the redline on a stock valve train in which case... You are more likely to drop a valve or burn one.

had a machine shop look at it and they said that the rings just werent seating well so he said that its either the rings, which they looked fine, or the cylinder walls were oblong.

thought so.
second thing I was going to say, would be just look at the cyl walls,
if that specific cylinders walls look different than the other three,
it's a huge sign that its rings are bad.
