Default VALVE SPRINGS OR RETAINER

basically what im saying is i heard all you really need to do is replace the springs with dual valve springs. i heard the retainers will hold but the dual springs are what would keep valves from dropping. is that true? i thought you had to use aftermarket springs with aftermarket retainers.

If the aftermarket springs are of the exact diameter and thickness as OE, you probably could get away with using them. Have we ever done this? NOPE, it's just stupid, if you you're already spending the money to upgrade your valvetrain. Aftermarket valve springs aren't going to do much good anyway when your factory retainers break at 10K rpm and 30lbs of boost (j/k, I don't think too many SFWD people would even consider skimping). Now, if you're just talking about using OEM inners or something, then keeping the factory retainers isn't a huge issue, cuz you're not strengthening anything (just adding a bit more pressure to the valve). Just my $0.02 though.
