V6 dual to single exhaust
Let me set up the example. Nissan VQ30 V6 engine in the 2002 Maxima ends on a single can muffler. 2005 Maxima with the same VQ30 V6 is now dual exhaust. As we know, it's not a true dual exhaust. More like a Y pipe with two mufflers.
Would you performance experts say if we convert the OEM dual (muffler) exhaust into a single muffler can exhaust, would there be an effects on performance or MPG? And let's say using an aftermarket muffler like Apexi WS2.
There have been many discussions with people converting single exhaust (muffler) to dual. But not the other way around.
Please educate. TIA

I would speculate that a well thought out single-outlet would flow better than the factory dual setup, and weigh less. it would be best to take into account everything from the ports on the heads to the tail pipe; the whole system. but a cat back with the right pipe diameter and good quality, single straight-through muffler would do well. it will be louder though so adding an extra resonator may be desirable.
