Upgraded spring retainers, are they really needed?
I'm wondering if its just marketing, or are valve spring retainers really need when upgrading to a set of aftermarket cam and valve springs. I have never heard of anyone with broken factory retainers.
I am thinking of running the new Edelbrock cams, with a better set of springs for sure. My setup it all motor, no forced induction for this setup in the future.

Its not about the strength, people upgrade retainers for lighter ones.
B16 retainers are roughly 15 grams, ITR's are about 13 grams. a decent of Titanium ones is between 6 and 8.
Titanium is actually weaker than the steel factory counterparts, but people use the titanium to save weight in the valvetrain.
