Default Tint question

I was wondering what would be the best tint since I have gotten pulled over 3 times for my previous tint, i had 20%. I have a dark blue car so that explains why the cops pulled me over, but I want dark tint but not dark enough to get pulled over a million more times, any suggestions? Thanks

What is the "tint law" in your state?

Stick with it and you will not have a problem.

They have gone to a no tint law for front drivers/pass doors here in B.C., my hatch glass is full limo and the rear sides are 65%, front sides were 25% but had to remove that, got stopped a week after grace period was over but cop let it slide because I had a set of clears in the hatch I had picked up at PicknPull a few weeks before, told him I just could not get in anyplace to get them switched yet, he gave me 30 days.

Now cops do not give me a second look. 94

Well in Wi, the law for window tint is 50% front windows and 35% for the back and sides; at least I believe its still the same since the last time I got pulled over for it.
I don't want to stick with it because I heard that it would be pretty much like it was clear.

You were lucky he let you slide. Thanks for the help, appreciated it.

You already answered you own request here.

How is 50% of light transmission like "clear", which is 90%+ transmission? It blocks half the light...

I run 15% front sides, 5% around the back. Tint tickets are not moving violations, and don't require court appointment, traffic school, or fines. I can't count the number of times I've been told "I'm giving you a warning for speeding, here's a ticket for the tint.", at which point I go home and swap the glass for untinted glass, show "proof of correction", then go put the tinted glass back in.

Well I was told that 50% was light. I mean I liked when my Windows were 20% cause they were dark but not as dark as yours, that's crazy dark. I know someone who has every window on his car limo tint, including the windshield, I'm sure he's gone through a couple thousand dollars in tickets because he doesn't take it off.
And as for changing out the Windows to non-tinted, sounds like a lot of work. Like I possibly could do 20% again and then when I went to court the last time, all they had me do was to take pictures of my window and my license plate, which I could of easily rolled the Windows down and they wouldnt of known.. hmm so I think I decided. Thanks for the help!

On an Integra, 3 phillips screws on the outside, 2 on the inside, and 2 10mm bolts. 15 minutes to swap both.

I don't even both to put the door panels back on or use all the bolts when I take it in. They only look at the outside of the car to verify the tint was removed.

Yeah, someone's a pro! That's crazy. And you don't get introuble for having to keep going back to court for the same problem?
They also actually go out to your car for court too?

No court.

Show proof of correction at a CHP station (or inspection station, usually next to the court if you don't have CHP conveniently close), they sign off on the "ticket", pay $15 for paperwork fees, and mail in the signed paperwork.

Heck, you can even file online (in LA anyway) for an extension, pushing out the due by date to 3 months.

For most people, the real "punishment" is paying to have the tint removed (most people don't know that they can do it themselves), show proof, then pay someone to tint it again (if they want to stay tinted). That gets expensive real quick, and most people won't bother.

It is no different than a ticket for a dead brake light, head light, or any other "car out of compliance" ticket.

Oh I see! Well thank god Wisconsin doesn't have a building like that, people here rarely get pulled over for tint.
Removing tint is easy, I removed tint from my boyfriends car and mine, for mine it took like 15- 20 minutes real easy. Yeah I can see why people don't bother doing it again, I would get expensive if you had to pay people to do the work.

if your not wanting to get pulled over, stick with the tint laws in your area. if 50% isnt daek enough for you your going to have to deal with the harassment, or you could always just ride with your windows down all the time or switch out the glass like tunernoob said.

i have 5% all around (except front windshield) on my evolution which was done two weeks ago and havent had any trouble yet (knock on wood) but most police around here arent dicks about it. the law in TN for cars is 35% all the way around, but most cops that pull you over for tint will take your liscence put it against a window and if it is legible through the tint they let you go.

i personaly think tint laws are stupid. tint deters thieves since they wont steal what they cant see, not to mention tint helps hold shattered glass together in an accident.

Yeah that was my plan last summer, to drive around with my Windows down but then in WI it was colder at nights so that was mainly when I'd get pulled over which the windows look so much darker at night and well my reasons for getting pulled over were mainly: time 1 was because I didn't have a front lisence plate and the sheriff ended up following me for a mile before he got me for tint, 2nd time was because I had a loud exhaust, and then the tint but I couldn't get a ticket because I was already going to court for it and the 3rd time the cop seriously just wasted both our times cuz he had to basically turn around. And still I didn't get **** for that cuz court was still coming up.

Everytime I've gotten pulled over the cops have this thing that checks your tint, I forgot what they are but there big and bulky, they have you roll your window down halfway and they check it like that. And usually cops go all out around where I live.

I totally agree with you! Tint laws are stupid and the tint really does keep your **** from getting stolen, cuz I look at my winter car and it has no tint, I can't put anything good where they can see it cuz they really do look like its awaiting attention.

And so I decided that I'm gonna get like 20% tint again.

here in cali
you can have rear windows spray painted if you wanted to
but the 3 fronts must not have tint.

BUT I STILL HAVE LIMO TINT! lol

cops dont really look for that to give u tickets. they use it as an excuse.

CHP especially in CA will never let front windows to be legal. For their safety they say. I kind of understand too. Many years ago I was driving home from work (a tint shop) one day coming from the 405 to the 110 and saw a CHP walking up to an 80's model Cutlas or a car of that kind. I drove by and thought "Damn , that ish is dark!" I looked in the rear view a few seconds later and saw the officer laying on the ground and the Cutlas speeding away like a madman.

Come to find out later on the news that night. The officer walked up to the window and knocked on it and when he did, the guy blew him away with a sawed off shotgun. They later found the guy that did it. But that is one of the main reasons why California will never make it legal.

And for those of you that have never had to pay for your repeat tint tickets, consider yourselves lucky. Last few tickets I got, I was charged $25 for a CHP officer to get off of his office chair and walk outside to look at my vehicle. Then stamp his name on my ticket. Then I had to pay a $25 "Court fee" when I went to court. Along with a fine because this was not my first tint ticket.

Now I have been pulled over for my front windows being tinted. But never for my entire windshield which is weird. I guess they never think that it could be done.

That is such a crazy/ terrible story! It seems like it would only be in a movie and then hearing you tell it, that's kinda really scary!

And I do believe that's why they have the tint set at 50% for the front windows because of that same reason, its kinda ghetto here so thanks to the major gangs around Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison.
