Default Timing Belt off?

Hey all, i was tightening my timing belt which was very loose and after i tightened it and and rotate the crankshaft to where the cam comes up at TDC ( its a d15b7), i thought the crankshaft was supposed to show TDC when the cam is at TDC, the TDC mark on the crank pulley is one inch to the left of the pointer when the cam is at TDC. ANy ideas? DO i need to take off my belt and and reset this or is it normal? My car runs really good and smooth.

the crank should show tdc when the cam shows tdc for #1 cylinder. rotate it over manually a few times, and if it doesnt line up, then you might have to re install the belt.

if you look at the gear it will have to dash marks opposite each other and the word up should be on their too. line up the marks with the head (dont line up level) make sure it is alil off so it is lined up with the head. then look down at the crank pulley it should be on the white mark about an inch to the right of the 2 black marks and 1 red. when you time it it will be the red mark you time to. those are the before TDC timing marks. if you cant figue it out i will take some pics for you.

when you finish with t-belt placement on cams and crank, make sure you turn your crank 2 or 3 tooth to give the tb-belt tension before tighten the adj. bolt. If you just place the belt and tighten the adj. bolt without turning the crank a little, it will not tension correctly

You are looking at the ignition timing marks on the crank pulley, not the TDC mark. The ignition timing marks are three lines, the TDC mark is just one mark about 1-2" to the right of the ignition marks.

If it was off by that much it would not run.

Ok, ive been researching my Tb problem, and it seems that it was one tooth off on the cam before i changed it. Someone set it with the pointer and the angeled mark instead of using the two straight marks and the top of the head.

my chilton book says to set it with the pointer and thats how i was getting that it was an inch off. With the cam rotated with the flat marks level with the head, its right Thanks for the info everyone.
