Is this thing ok? (big pictures)
well I don't want to say exactly what happened just yet because I am trying to figure out what my options are.
but yes it was dropped.
Do you think the block is still usable?

Well the machine shop can magnaflux the block if that's what you're asking. I'd change the girdle myself if I were you. Just look for one at the junkyard or grab one off eBay...I see them cross there from time to time. I'd have the line bore checked at the shop as well...no sense taking chances.

Well you have to figure when they sleeve the block, its sitting right on those main seats where the caps bolt up too. They are under alot of pressure durring that process.

The only thing that worries me is that the sleeves might have been knocked out of whack or somehow the whole block is cocked or something... it seems to me like the griddle isn't really that strong looking at how porous the metal is. It's probably plenty strong for what it was designed to do, just not support the weight of the block...

replace the girdle and have the block looked at by a machine shop
that second picture worries me, the crack/scratches(while they could be surface) are on the mating surface of head and headgasket...

The block was packed as follows:
double boxes, thick boxes
wrapped/padded
additional cardboard padding around block.
I am not sure what happened, but it must have been a high drop to break the griddle like that...

That's about what I figured. UPS should be held accountable. GE uses wood on top and bottom for shipping for good reason and the girdle is fairly fragile, but that block obviously took a major league jolt to crack it in all those places.
I might be picking up Tbone's GE B18C.
This is pretty lame though... you figured if they just handled the box with car, you know not drop kick it, this would never happen and I would be a happy camper.....

Just in case some of you missed my post about shipping blocks.
