tcm?? transmission control module??

tcm?? transmission control module??
can someone tell me what is a TCM..? i assume its "transmission control module"... what does it do? i was told the ecu controls the tranny(auto tranny). is that inaccurate? im putting an jdm obd1 auto transmission in my 98 gsr, will i need a TCM? if so anyone know a partnumber? any help would be great.

NO. The OBD1 JDM GSR does not require a TCM to properly control the automatic tranny.
