Ive seen a piece of a cast aluminum shift fork from a obd1 sohc tranny get wedged between the ring and the pinion gears, It ripped off12 out of 18 teeth on it, it was bad. We had no idea it was even a problem until the tranny was destroyed. It didnt really show any symptoms. obd2 sohc trannies use steel one that dont break so if your worried you could just get one of those if you dont already have one.
