Default swap not starting....too much fuel???!!

i've been trying to get my d16z6 swap into my 89 lx up and running. No ECU trouble codes (or check engine light), timing is fine, getting spark, getting fuel, getting electric, but not getting the engine to turnover....it cranks but just wont turn all the way.

I was out of town for 3 days and my pops pulled the car over to the only mechanic in town who would check out a swap. I originally thought it was the timing off 180 cause i installed a distributor, but he said timing was fine and that the engine was getting TOO MUCH FUEL!!!??

I would think that the car would just run rich and idle badly, if anything too much fuel might of damaged the spark plugs, but then i wouldn't be getting any spark, and i am.

Has anyone every heard of anything like this? if so how do i change it (maybe a fuel pressure regulator?) please let me know i would love to actually drive my car.....

Check the cam timing.

It's probably flooded. Hold the gas pedal to the floor and try to start it.

well.....i ran into that exact same problem. But do this to make sure u are in fact running too rich. Go and try and start ur car, let it turn over a good amount. Stop, then go and pull out a spark plug, If the plug is wet and dripping with fuel.....then yes that is the reason will not start. Your car will not start when that much fuel is being dropped into the combustion chamber. Now let me give u a bit of background on my situation. I was going to go with an obd1 ecu, in my crx....so i got the jumper harness, obd1 ecu, obd1 dist..all that was needed. When i went to start my car it just turned over....and no start. So i checked for spark(it was good) then i suspected fuel, becasue i could smell it . So i pulled out a plug and behold, it was driping with fuel. So i got ahold of a dx ecu and still way to much fuel. So i never really tried to figuret he problem out becasue this was my daily driver....but its not the fpr. I beleive it has to be something stemming from a wiring problem. and a d16z6, what is that from. becasue if i am correct its an obd1 motor. If so, did u switch out the wire harness????? or did u convert to obd1, like i did aswell?

ok the d16z6 is the 92-95 sohc vtec engine found in the Si's and Del Sol's. I could definitely smell fuel after i tried turning it over, i did pull out a spark plug and the smell was very strong but it wasn't dripping, although i can't say that i pulled it out right after i tried turning it over.

As for wiring...someone built me a conversion harness for the ECU end and then i modified my DX harness for the 4 injectors, 4 wire o2 sensor, vtec, vtec oil pressure...which i took off of the d16z6 harness. DId you check the fuel pressure?? because if its something in wiring then i wouldn't know where to begin and i would think that a good way to curb this problem would be to put in an adjustable fpr to lower the pressure (AEM, B&M) let me know how you troubleshot yours cause this is my daily driver and i am tired of rolling in my moms Chrysler le baron station wagon...although the fake wood trim is pretty classy.

well, i had a fpr and i lowered the preessure all the way to like 30 psi and same thing....and when i would switch back to preobd, my car would start. so it has to be a wiring problem. who did u get the harness from???? becasue i got mines from blownhatch from h-t. And he is a good guy who will defently help you if needed. I had no other car to drive to work, so i was forced to go back to pre obd. But i did get my car to start....... but its hard to explain. But i will try...... when i would turn my car over and the cel would stay on and make like a buzzing sound, it would want to start and would get it to turn over. But, when the cel would just turn on and then off, and no buzzing, it would not start at all. So that leads me to beleive that its something to do with the wiring, or the jumper harness, something. i would email jason, at turbo_ef@yahoo .com and ask to help u out with some leads, on what the prob, might be. And email me, if u have any questions, becasue i would love to figure out the problem, that way i can convert to obd1 again, and not sell my items.

unfortunately i dont think i can switch back to obd0 because i had to modify my dx harness to run mpfi, and the extra added injector wires run back into the conversion harness and p28 ecu, along with vtec, o2 sensor, etc. So you didn't get any better results by lowering your fuel pressure?

no, im not saying for u to go back to preobd. i was just using that as an example that its not the the fuel pump,, fpr or the injectors. Becasue if that was the case my car would not have started when converted back to preobd. And same results when i lowered my fp.
