Default Standard base model

ok , now i know that base model ef hatchbacks have only 70 horsepower, but what i would like to know is, what part of the motor is inferior to that of a dx motor, which has 92 horsepower. They are both sohc, 1.5liter motors, but the base model is slower, i would like to know because i have a 88 dx hatchback, and a 88 base model civic hatch. I im getting a new motor for my dx, so i want to swap trannies and whatever else makes it quicker to the base model, any help is appreciated thanks.
