Default speedo cable problem...

to fix my bouncing speedometer, i took the speedo cable out and re-lubed it with dry graphite all purpose lubricant. i put the cable back in...it seemed to go right in the cluster which most people say is the hardest part so if the cable is all the way in the "sheath" does that mean its in the cluster? I had some trouble gettin the cable into the tranny b/c i couldnt tell when it was actually in so i just stuck it in there and put the "horseshoe" clip on it. to make a long story short, my speedo is still bouncing so could anybody help me out with what i could be doing wrong or how to actually get the speedo cable in the tranny?thanx
