Default Speed masters B16 casting. BEWARE!!!

I purchased a new speedmasters casting a few years back and finally had a chance to get to my build after a bad medical situation. I sent casting to 4 pistons to get cnc port. After receiving from 4 piston and assemble at home I turned the belt and noticed a lot of friction in the cams. New skunk 2. The cam caps on casting after mic to jdm casting miced .025 inches smaller than jdm. This caused the vtec probes to hit plate. Also the cam caps are way to tight with 16 ftlbs of torque on the cam. You have to turn cams with a wrench there is so much friction in cam journals. A 3k paper weight at the moments. Very poor quality in the casting. Stay away from product!!!

Thats a fixable issue. Being a new casting, it should have been checked before bolting it down to the block.

Get the cam journals line honed.

You both are correct... those castings are pieces of ****, but they CAN be fixed. It is a shame you have to spend money to make a NEW head casting actually work. The real trick is finding a machine shop that will line hone the cam journals on the cylinder head and do a good job. Good Luck.

Thanks guys yes I have talked to machine shop and yes line journal can be fixed to deal with the friction issue but can't add metal to top of journal as the cam sits to high in head. Just taking the lose to worn others its crappy casting as well. Maybe its a blessing that the head didn't fall apart on me on track and cause engine damage.
Your right on checking cams b4 build but didn't cross my mind at time. Just a warning out there to stay away from castings.

Sounds like time to call the outfit that sold it to you, and see what they plan to do to fix it for you. They should be paying a machine shop to fix it, not you.
