Default Snow and limited slip.....

Would a LSD be beneficial in snow/slush conditions? I ask because my car(a '99 Si) does the one wheel peel if it loses traction in the snow, and my idea is that instead of one wheel spinning madly, with a LSD I'll have two. No fun, as the car is a pain in the *** to get back in line with one tire off doing it's own thing. Anybody in snow states use/have them? My "economic stimulus package" will be going towards upgrade parts for the car, and if it's going to help more than hinder, the trans is getting a new friend. Inputs?

not really sure how it would be in the snow on a FWD car. my truck has one in the back, and it helps if you know how to drive. by that, i mean it will spin both tires much easier, especially in corners. keep it under control though and you can definitely go further with it. in the front, i really don't know, seems like it would increase under-steer, but that is just a guess.

I have an ITR LSD and run Blizzak WS-50 tires on my '97 GSR. It goes quite well in the snow.

Sounds like the trans is getting a LSD in a couple months. Thanks for the input.

LSD does not increase understeer. It's a limited slip, not a locking diff.

I'm in the same boat as you. I just got my SOHC LSD and moved to Utah, but the snow quit falling before I got a chance to test it out. Ask me again next year.

The addition of an LSD to a FWD car actually pushes it towards oversteer. Lifting off of the throttle mid corner can have some interesting results near the adhesion limits.
