Skunk2 ECU conversions
I recently purchased a Skunk2 chip from some guy off Ebay. It probably isn't worth a penny but I only paid $15 so if it doesn't work, no big loss. My question is will this chip only work with VTEC ECUs? I have a 93 DX hatch in my back yard that I'm stripping to race and the motor is no good to me. I know the ECU is in great condition and if I can take that off and chip it to put in my '98 Civic then that'd be great. I know I need a harness and I already have one but I just want to know if I can chip that ECU and save money instead of buying a used one of Ebay?
Your ECU in your '93 DX should be a P06, (either containing the 11F0-1500 or 1720-1500 board) these are both used as SOHC EX/Si ECU's (P28) and can be converted to VTEC fairly easily... You'll need your standard 20 pin DIP chip, your SK2 ROM, a 10K resistor, and a couple 103Z ceramic caps to do the conversion to DOHC VTEC but all you need to go from the nonVTEC (P06) --> to --> VTEC is to get a VTEC 5 pin transistor (S5050), jump J10, add a cap to C60 and on the 11F0 board a 3 pin transistor to Q101... I'm still working on a more detailed write up but this is pretty straight foreward... I also recommend socketing 27256 as you may want to change your ROM later on down the road (this just makes it easier)... Hope this helps... Latez
