Simple tire question
Ok im not a tire freak so i was wondering what is the diff. between 245/45/17 and 225/45/17? I always wondered what the 245 meant and the 45. Its stupid i know but just bare with me....oh also what is tred wear. I found some tires i want to buy that say 350 tread wear. Is that good? If not could you please tell me everything i should look for in tires when buying , thanx.
(I have a 01' Accord EX v6 4dr and got some 17x7 for it)

I dont know how easy of an answer you want but if you go to http://www.tirerack.com
you will learn everything you need to know there.
To nutshell the information 245 is the width in mm's, 45 is the height of the sidewall in comparsion to the tread width.
And lastly treadwear depends on what dutys you want the tire to do. The higher the number like 350 the harder the tread...the longer the tire will probably last as far as how many miles you can put on them.
Generally for a highway tire 350 is good but if you want traction for cornering or launching 200 is a whole lot better.
Its very difficult to find a tire that can do everything...a tire that sticks good on dry pavement isn't going to do anything in the snow and vica-versa.
A real nice tire imo is the Bridgstone Potenza's for all around performance. Also the Yokohoma Avid series. But my favorite tire for the money is the Falken Azenis although in your tire size they would be pretty expensive if they even make them in that size.
