Short shifter stuff..please help me understand
Alright. I have a 92 acura legend 5 speed, and currently, no one makes a short shift kit for them (of course) The shift lever is way out in the open, and easily accessible.
How do they work, like does someone have a picture of it, or can describe it well.
I know you want a shorter shifter, with a longer piece at the end to pivot with...but i dont really understand how it works...
thanks

all a short shifter is a shifter that has the pivot piont and the linkage pivot at a larger distance from each other
you can actually make a short shifter out of your stock unit
just cut the bottom of the shifter and weld an extension in
it is not terribly reliable if you aren't very good at welding
but it can be done if welded properly
i would just reccomend sticking with your stock unit
also i bet that there is a company that makes a short shifter for your car
i will look around for ya

There is such a small aftermarket for legends, esp the generation 2. all of the parts that are made for it were basically offshoots of custom pieces made by members of the legend forum.
anyway, i want to make my own. i have a C&C friend, that can make just about anything i need, i just need to know how to make them.

you mean you have a friend that is a machinist
CNC (computer numerical control) is just a style of automated machining
my uncle is a shop foreman and a master machinist
also if you are making one from scratch i would reccomend making it out of stainless preferrably 304 or a heavier grade for better "feel"
and do not lenghten the shifter more than 1/2" otherwise it will be too short
