the retainers are made of steel. depending on what spring you plan on using would help make the selection easier.
If you do decide to go with the Ti you'll enjoy a couple hundred more rpm because of the weight savings in the valvetrain. They will wear out, I would say in the neighborhood of 40,000 miles depending on the manufacture.
And in my opinion I would only buy a retainer that you can buy a aftermarket keeper for, I have seen a few valves pull through the ti retainer using stock keepers.

thats great if titanium last for 40000 miles, i was hopin a set would last 30000-40000
as for springs/retainers make, either crower, portflow or omniman. probably the set i can get cheapest of those lot
some guy has offered me springs/retainers that he said the retainers are made of aluminium with the springs rated up to 10000rpm (dont know figures for the springs). ill try and and get company name of him.
back to aluminum retainers, whats difference between these and titanuim ?
thats first time ive heard someone mention keepers (i dont even know what they are). i will be reving to 9000-9200 rpm and car is just daily driver if that info is any help
