Default Resetting the ECU

I've been told that resetting the ecu on hondas will only clear certain error messages. Others will remain in the system. Can somebody elaborate on what kinds of messages will not be erased by simply resetting the ecu, and any known ways of completely clearing the message log? Any help would be appreciated.

and if the problem is still there, of course the CEL will come back on.

you can't fix your car just by resetting the ECU, and some mods will inevitably keep that light shining and you just have to deal with it.
