remove crank to remove pistons?
I believe you do have to remove the head. You need to crank the engine
to BDC which is every 45 deg on the crank. This makes all the pistons
equal height. Remove everything from the bottom end blocking the crank,
do so carefully and in sequence, then the rod bolts will be visible. you need
to have some tubing on hand to slide over the rodbolts when the nuts are
removed. you will need to remove them a 3rd turn at a time also. at the
top of the piston sleeve depending on the milage on the car there might be
a carbon buildup ridge where the burn reaches around the piston to the
ring at TDC. there is a tool to remove this ridge if you need be, you will be
needing to remove the pistons through the top of the motor, the back end
of a hammer works well from what I hear. you will need a ring compressor,
a tension dial indicator for retensioning the rod bearings, a honing brush tool
for scuffing the cylinder walls (helps the new rings seat) an integra service
manual, new rings, rodbearings, heck.. why not better pistons while you are at
it. Stay standard bore if you are not removing the block.
this is no small job. if you are new at this, I suggest
coordinating a tech buddy to work with you on it.
I believe the crank can stay in the car. if it doesnt... the tranny, flywheel,
axles... main seals... all need to come out. BIG JOB.
