do you think with 250k miles on it i can still drive around like state wise or do i need to replace the engine with a newer engine before i try to travel in it?

Hi, it is a high mileage,
depending on engine series/type, driving behaviour of previous owner, local climate conditions, oil exchanges, all maintenance... A lots of variables.

I use to check bearings, compression, inspect stems, and lots more so on of my Daily driven b18c4 (B18c1) engine
every 100.000 kilometers, when I basically change the timing belt, inspect the most I can.
had to rebuild entirely on 300.000 because it started loosing compression and bearings were worn.
I prefer rebuilding, because you never know what bugs had the previous owner of an engine in his head.
At that mileage you should rebuild long time a go.
and of course if you have high output B, H, K, Series any time a bearing will spun, and for sure piston rings are far long gone.
D,F series engines have more luck as not always owners abuse them.
J series can't tell, as not so many,

If you want to know more, find the owner's OEM manual for you car,
scheduled maintenance pages,
there is all the described maintenence to be done
at the end of the book if the car is serviced in a dealership.
THere is a description what's being serviced.
if you don't have all above info.
first thing is to measure cylinder compression,
smokes, leaks, bearings integrity...
Full engine inspection,
would recommend to be done by Honda Acura engine acknowledged person.

good luck.

It really depends.

If the compression is still strong and it's not consuming oil, you just need to do the timing belt and water pump if you don't know when it was done last and you can keep on trecking indefinitely.

Even if the compression is a little weak but still above minimum and even if it's burning a bit of oil, these motors will keep going for a long time.

You have to weigh the cost of rebuilding the motor and the value of the car.

Now a days, these old cars are not even worth what it costs to rebuild the motor. So it boils down to your sentimental value of the car and if it's worth the dollars.
