Recently Purchased B20v
What's good guys, I picked up this beaut awhile ago and it's about that time to start tearing into it, I'm just not 100% sure where start.

Basically, I'm wanting to verify that what I was told pertaining to was done to the car, is in fact true. And please keep in mind, that engines are not my strong point and my knowledge of them is very limited.
I was told that it has a GSR head, B20 block (out of a CRV) and a GSR, 5 speed transmission. I was also told that it was "rebuilt" 4,000 miles ago. Whether that is true or not, I'm sure everyone has a different definition of "rebuilt".
My questions are:
[/b]Are there any signs that can verify that it was rebuilt recently?
What exactly should have been done to it, if in fact it WAS rebuilt.
I understand ARP head bolts should have been used, how would I tell them apart from the stock ones? There are 10 of them?
[/b]

Now, that other part of my questions pertains to turbo. I would like to turbo this motor sometime down the road. Will I? I'm not sure, but I'd like to.
Until I decide to turbo it, I'd like to make some decent, yet reliable power out of it. I see it like this. The more aftermarket parts put on this motor, the more likely it will be less reliable. So I would like to use few, but quality parts while building this. I was thinking along the lines of cams and possibly a new throttle body/intake. Only reason I'm not messing with the pistons or rods or anything, is because I simply don't know enough to approach them.
I would like to basically build this motor for turbo, but be able to run it NA until I have the funds for boost. Does that make sense? Correct me if I'm wrong.
So what are everyones opinion on things? I've done my research before making this thread, and will continue to do research after to continue learning. This thread is to keep track of everything basically.
As far as intake, exhaust, headers. I don't really need to ask questions about those, there's LOTS of information around the infowebs that I can find, not to mention it's kind of straight forward.
Thanks in advance everyone

*** GSR = P72, pistons P3F = 8.8, PHK = 9.6
*** the trans would have to be opened and teeth counted. or there are ways to turn the input and measure the diff turns. kind of sketchy to be accurate though
*** Rebuilt is relative. valve job? rings? bearings? bore/hone or just hone? take it apart and get really good pics
*** measure the bore, if it is over 84.5 I wouldn't use it for turbo
*** arp studs, not bolts
*** if you are trying to have it ready for turbo but drivable til then, I recommend higher cr pistons, like 9.5, maybe 10. it will feel nice as is and not be ridiculous on boost. will also give better power on low boost
"

*** that is not right, do right now and it will be more reliable turbo'd than stock.

*** don't waste your time with that stuff, just put some good rods and pistons in it while you have it apart, plus some some block strengthening. everything else can be easily done with the motor in the car

you really should just see if the block is stock or not before anything.
Yeah, my apologies. I meant head studs, 'bolts' was a typo.
it IS a GSR head, and it felt like a GSR tranny. (Short gears as apposed to my looonnggg CX gears) I'm not sure how short GSR gears are supposed to be, but these feel short.
Can you elaborate on the higher cf pistons and why they would give better power and low boost? Please and thank you.
How exactly would I see if the block is stock or not? I'm sure pulling the head is straight forward, but what would I look for in the block?
As far as the aftermarket parts go, I just feel like OEM parts are more reliable than anything. So would the extra power (and me doing everything I possibly can to instal these properly, as long as buying quality parts) be worth losing that? I may be wrong, but it's just how I see it.
Are upgrading my cams a good idea? It seems easy, and if it can open up the the motor and make it that much more aggressive (especially in vtec) I think it may be worth while.
Thanks again

4,200 rpm @ 80mph = gsr tranny
gsr and ls use the same tranny casing so with out tearing it apart and counting the teeth and doing some division the only other way to tell is drive it. Ls has longer gears 3rd-5th. 1st-2nd are the same as the gsr.

The head is stamped p72. I'm 95% sure its a GSR tranny, it was out of the sellers GSR as far as I know. and since the head matches up, I don't see why he'd lie about it being a GSR when the LS is so similar, you know?
