Rebuilding stock axles
Ok I have 70k on the clock and I am thinking its time to rebuild the axles. The last couple of oil changes I have seen some grease around the boots. The boots are not broken at all but I think with 70k on them they should be looked at. I know honda sells factory boot kits for the axles and wanted to know if its worth doing and what exactly is envolved or what needs to be done. I think the factory axles are better than the Autozone or refab axles for the reason that I have seen alot of axles from there not last even half the life of the factory axles. Also I have seen the boots brake alot quicker on those. When they refab them what do they actually change besides the boot?
if the boot is just seeping out grease the just do a boot kit. if the boot has been torn for a while or making noise replace it. as for replacing it you will need to remove the axle cut the bands off with a pair od dykes and a little trick is to cutt the boot off with a razor its quick and clean, then reove the grease from the joint now that it is exposed then when clean hit the lower side of the joint downward to release it from the circlip then clean out the joint and shaft then put the band on the shaft then the boot then add grease then compress the circlip and be carefull of the position of the clip then hit the outer joint shaft with a bronze hammer or a hammer with a peice of wood betwwn the joint and hammer then hammer on and install bands.
